Are thieves costing you more than just inventory? When your business is repeatedly targeted by thieves and you need to make a number of claims, the rates for your Texas business insurance may increase when it comes time to renew. The Tex Stop Exxon Station in Athens, Texas knows something about repeated robberies, according to the Athens Daily Review.

According to the news report, near the end of December 2011, the store had the unfortunate luck of being robbed twice in a single week. Located on the 400 block of South Palestine Street, the gas station attendant contacted the police on December 23rd to report the second crime. It occurred a little after 3 AM that morning. A man walked in and produced a revolver. The first burglary was similar – a man entered the store with what appeared to be a gun and demanded all the money in the cash register. When the employee put up no fight, the robber took the money and left.

Is your business going through similar troubles? You may be able to reduce the odds of being the victim of thieves by making a few changes to the property. Consider changing the layout so there is only one way in and one way out. Obvious video surveillance cameras are often a great deterrent for small-scale criminals. It may also be worthwhile to hire a security team, at least during the high-risk hours such as overnight or to consider security doors that can be unlocked as a legitimate late night customer approaches.

Making changes to reduce your losses due to theft can help you keep more money in your pocket. The same changes may also help your Texas business insurance premiums remain affordable when your renewal date arrives.
