Have you recently moved to the Long Horn State? Before you start your search for affordable Texas auto insurance, you need to get your state driver license. The process for getting one is similar to other states. You can find eligibility information below.

  • Are you a driver over the age of 16 with a state-issued driver license from another place? You have three months after relocating to obtain a Texas license or else be at risk for retribution from the law.
  • All Texas driver license candidates from other states must visit the DMV to complete the required tests. This usually includes a vision exam, written evaluation, and driving skills assessment. The latter two may not be mandated for drivers 18 years and older.
  • Minors with a current out-of-state license may have to meet additional requirements by providing certificate of completion from a driver education and a letter from a high school or GED program as proof of current enrollment.
  • Applicants 17 years of age or younger must also be accompanied by their guardian, surrender their permit or license from the other state, and complete a driving test.

Once you have accomplished your goal of obtaining a state driver license in Texas, you can turn your attention to finding affordable Texas auto insurance. Contact our agency when you are ready to purchase a policy.
